If no, we understand! Let’s be honest, most people are not born as fitness lovers and even the most avid fitness lovers have moments where they become bored with their workout or lack motivation.​

If you find yourself lacking the motivation to work out or genuinely find yourself disliking exercise, here are 4 secrets about people who love to exercise and how you too can find love for fitness.

4 SECRETS OF PEOPLE WHO LOVE TO EXERCISE

1. They don’t view exercise as punishment. People who genuinely love to work out view exercise as something they “get to do” versus something they “have to do.”

These people hit the gym with fervor because they love reaping the rewards of how they will feel after they get done working out. By shifting the focus from punishment to reward, they find themselves excited to get their workout done for the day. They are excited to achieve this daily milestone.

To focus on rewards rather than punishment, write down a list of everything you love getting from your workouts. This can include a sense of achievement to getting a boost of energy after a workout

If you don’t love working out, it is important to have this mindset shift because it is difficult to consistently stick with working out when you are always focused on the negative aspects, rather than the positive aspects.

For example, when working out, rather than thinking “I’m so out of shape” or “My muscles hurt,” try changing that inner dialogue to “My body is changing for the better.” ​

It will take some work but becoming more positive (especially with our inner voice) is always a worthwhile goal.

2. They’ve tried lots of workouts… and found something that they love.

People who genuinely love to work out have tried many different formats and found one that they love and stick with it.

The key to finding a workout that works for you is to first try lots of different formats to find out what you do and don’t like. Whether that’s running or riding a bike in spin class or shadowboxing, there are so many different ways to get your fitness on in today’s world. Once you find a workout that you love, it is much easier to stick with it consistently.​

At GRIT Fitness, there is no shortage of variety when it comes to fitness class formats. There is a class format for everyone, no matter what fitness level you are at. From dance to spin to cardio kickboxing to barre, there is something for everyone.

3. They don’t expect to love working out every single day.

People who love to exercise have bad days too. There are days when they lack the motivation to go to their favorite workout class. There are days when they don’t want to work out. There are days when they have a bad workout. They know that just because they didn’t want to exercise one day, doesn’t mean that they hate exercise.

They understand that taking a day off from exercising doesn’t make them a failure. They know that hating one workout doesn’t mean they hate exercising. They don’t let a bad workout keep them from trying again tomorrow.

When you find yourself struggling with working out, try thinking about all of the things that you love about exercise, i.e. how you feel after a workout (even a bad one!). This will help you cultivate your excitement for exercise again.

Nobody likes to feel alone. It is easier to stick with a commitment when you have accountability.

If you find yourself lacking the motivation to work out, try scheduling a fitness “date” with an accountability buddy. A fitness buddy not only makes exercising more fun but you are more likely to stick with working out when you know someone else is showing up for you.
